Childbirth Preparation Classes In Greater Belfast, UK

'Held in Birth' Cares About Your Experience ~Not Just the Outcome~

Birth isn’t something you just get through – it’s something you can actually feel exceptionally good about.
Whether it’s your first baby or your second time around, birth can feel like a bit of a mystery – especially when you’re juggling NHS appointments, conflicting advice, and well-meaning (but slightly terrifying) birth stories.

You deserve to feel calm, clear, and completely supported as you prepare to meet your baby. That’s where my ‘Held in Birth’ classes come in.

Nicola supported me with resources I myself wouldn't have come across on my own and in turn I was able to make informed decisions which allowed me to have the birth I wanted. She has a wonderful nature and 100% about supporting women in their decisions with uplifting words of encouragement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are childbirth preparation classes?

These are supportive, educational sessions that help you and your birth partner feel confident and ready for labour, birth, and early parenthood. You’ll learn what to expect, how to cope with contractions, and ways to stay calm and in control throughout the process.

Are these classes suitable for first-time mums only?

Not at all! While they’re perfect for first-time parents, many second- or third-time mums also attend—especially if they want a refresher or had a difficult birth experience previously.

Can my partner or birth companion attend?

Yes, definitely! Classes are designed to support both you and your chosen birth partner. They’ll learn how to support you effectively during labour and feel more confident in their role.

Do you offer private or group sessions?

Yes! You can choose a private 1:1 session tailored to your needs, or join a small group class where you’ll also connect with other local parents.

What topics are covered in the class?

Every class is a little different, but you can expect to learn about:

  • Signs of labour and when to go to hospital
  • Pain relief options (natural and medical)
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Positions for labour and birth
  • What happens if things don’t go to plan
  • Partner support and communication
  • Immediate postnatal care and newborn basics

What if I’m feeling anxious about birth?

You’re not alone—many expectant mums feel nervous. These classes are a safe, supportive space to ask questions, share concerns, and replace fear with knowledge, tools, and a sense of control.

How do I book a class?

Simply get in touch with me here. Spaces often fill up quickly, so early booking is recommended.

When should I start attending classes?

Most people join classes between 28–36 weeks of pregnancy. This gives you time to absorb the information, practise techniques, and ask any questions.

I’m planning a caesarean—are these classes still relevant?

Yes. Even with a planned caesarean, there’s a lot to gain—understanding the birth process, recovery tips, newborn care, and ways your partner can support you. We also cover emotional preparation and what to expect on the day.

What makes your classes different from NHS antenatal classes?

These sessions are more personalised, interactive, and trauma-informed. You’ll get more time to ask questions, explore your specific preferences, and build confidence in a warm, relaxed setting.

Nicola has been an incredible support at a time in my life when I needed it. She has shown compassion, patience and understanding while also sharing great knowledge and useful information for navigating pregnancy.
